The rhetorical analysis was one of the papers that I wrote this semester. The things I learned while writing this paper included the three different rhetorical appeals: logos, pathos, and ethos. At first these different appeals were hard for me to grasp and understand, but the rhetorical analysis that I wrote helped me to understand each of these concepts more fully. Logos is the logical appeal- it uses numbers and facts. Pathos is the emotional appeal- it tugs on peoples’ heartstrings. Ethos is the writer’s background, or ethical appeal. With ethos, the author uses his credibility and character to persuade others. We believe those we respect. I analyzed the article "Restoration or Destruction: The Controversy Over Wolf Reintroduction". This article was something that was interesting to me. It not only helped me grasp the three rhetorical appeals, but it also helped me to understand where both sides were coming from. |

This was the first annotated bibliography that I have written. It seemed crazy to write a paragraph about each source and how I would use it in my paper, but after I finished I could see the value it had. I no longer had to search through each link trying to find where I read something. The paragraph was enough to help me find which article I was looking for. The toughest thing for me to grasp onto was the MLA format, I have never written a paper using this format, and citing the pages that I used for research was by far the hardest thing in MLA format. I used a couple of different websites to help me figure it out, mainly "The Purdue Online Writing Lab". The annotated bibliography really helped me to figure out why citing your sources is important and how writing a paragraph about each cite helps keep everything organized while writing your paper. |

One of the hardest things for me to do is organize my thoughts and write it down on paper. This paper helped me to figure out how to do that and make it all sound professional. The research paper is on gun control, I researched the different laws that we now have on guns and how they affect us in the community. Gun control is something that is interesting to me and I felt like I knew a little bit of background behind it, but I was wrong. There is much more to this topic than you would think. Why shouldn't guns be legal? Why should someone who takes all the precautions to keep their weapons safe be punished? Why are the laws on guns not as stringent as they should be? These are all questions that are answered in the link to the right.
